For our fall vacation this year Jaime and I decided to take a trip to the North
Carolina Outer Banks. Jaime had never been, but had developed a strong interest in
going after reading several novels set in the area by her favorite author Nicholas Sparks.
I'd been twice in my life: once on a spring break trip in college and once as an Elementary
School student in 4th grade.
As with all well-crafted plans, something unexpected always happens. In this case, Hurricane Noel happened. The storm remained offshore but brought strong winds and significant coastal flooding and ocean overwash to most of the Outer Banks. We still managed to have an awesome time even though we lost a night in Ocracoke and gained an extra day in Nags Head/Kill Devil Hills due to a road closure on highway 12 near Rodanthe. Each day of our journey has its own page. Pick one below: Day 1 (New Bern) | | Day 2 (HURRICANE/Detour to Nags Head) | | Day 3 (Journey to Hatteras) | | Day 4 (To Ocracoke, then home) |
