About Me

Where to begin? My name's Tim, and I'm 28 years old. I grew up just outside of Hickory, North Carolina and consider myself to have had the best of all possible childhoods. My parents' house is on the edge of a 300-acre farm which is itself only 2 miles from the Valley Hills Mall in Hickory. There are plenty of steep hills, a fast flowing creek, waterfalls, and beautiful scenery around the old neighborhood. It made for the perfect setting to grow up and just explore the world around you. Brent was my best friend growing up and we still have a close relationship to this day. He's now married and lives in a house next to his wife's parents about 7 miles from where we grew up. I have a loving family still there today that I really miss being 300 miles away from!

I went to Startown Elementary, Blackburn Middle, and Fred T. Foard High School, graduating there in 1994. My graduating class was approximately 200 people. In the fall of 1994 I went to UNC-Asheville and had a great time there for four years, graduating from the Atmospheric Scieces program in May 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree. From there, I took my first job with the National Weather Service in October 1998 as a temporary intern in Jackson, Mississippi. Since that job was temporary I was constantly looking for permanent employment, which I found with the NWS in Wakefield, VA in the spring of 1999. I really enjoyed living in southeast Virginia, but left it in the late summer of 2000 to take a forecaster job with the NWS here in Wilmington. I've been here in Wilmington ever since and have had the greatest time here.

This is Jaime, my fiancee. We met through our mutual friend Steve and chatted online and over the phone for nearly two months before we met in person. She lives in Charleston, SC and is a meteorologist with the NWS there. It's amazing how much we have in common and how much fun we always have together. Jaime is one of the most sincere and caring people I've ever met in my life, and she has compassion and sweetness like no one else. I feel so blessed just to be with her! What are our plans for the future? We're planning on getting married January 22, 2005! Stay tuned to this page for further updates... :)

In the meantime, be sure to check out Jaime's webpage with lots of neat pictures of her journeys over the past several years:. http://www.geocities.com/jaimride/Jaime

My interests are varied and range from reading to video games, politics to NASCAR, astronomy to envrionmentalism. (I'm sure there's some inherent conflicts in there, but so be it) I'm active in my church, Messiah Lutheran Church, which is like a big family to me. I feel very blessed to have found such a great group of people. I lead a small- group study for the 30-and-under crowd from my church who meet at my house once a month for food, fun, and Bible Study.

I also have two cats here at the house with me. Doppler (the gray and white one with a pink nose) is my first cat. He's got a really loving personality. If every cat on earth was like Doppler, everyone would have a cat for a pet. Max (the black and white one) has been abandoned by several owners, so I had to keep him here! Doppler and Max had some tough moments when they first got together, but they're the best of friends now. I used to have a third cat, Sugar, (the brownish one) but she's now very happily living with Jaime down in Charleston! Sugar never quite learned to get along with Dop and Max, so it's probably best that she is down in Charleston for now. The story of how I got Sugar is pretty interesting: During the summer of 2003 I was leaving work one night and heard a faint meowing from the woods behind the weather office. (that's at the ILM airport) I went back there and saw a very skinny cat peeking at me from the edge of the woods. After about 10 minutes she finally came up to me and let me pet her. It wasn't very many more minutes before she was in the car and heading home. While she lived here with me and the other two cats, she hid under the bed mostly and never really came out to play. She's a completely different animal now and has really blossomed in her personality, and her playing/stalking/running skills!

I've had a life-long interest in meteorology that stretches back to before when I even started Elementary School! Sure, there have been times where I thought I wanted to be an astronaut, a baseball player, even a nuclear chemist! But weather was always there for me and I have never looked back. My most exciting weather events so far have been Hurricane Hugo in September 1989, the great SuperStorm of March 1993, and a tremendous thunderstorm downburst in the summer of 1984. That last one is an especially interse memory -- I was standing at the living room window in my parents' house looking out into the storm. There was a maple tree not more than 10 feet from the glass that was suddenly invisible through all the rain, wind and hail. Winds were probably in the 60-80 mph range judging from the damage left behind. Hurricane Hugo brought winds officially reported at the Hickory airport at 81 mph. This also seems accurate from the widespread tree damage in the storm's wake. The March '93 SuperStorm was important for the lowest barometric pressure I've ever experienced, plus actually seeing a thunderstorm occur with heavy snow.

Wilmington's a great town to live in, and my job is very rewarding. No one knows what the future holds for any of us, but we have to remain positive! God has really been good to me, and I will try my best to repay the favor by living my life the way He wants.

That's all about me! I think everyone should write a webpage telling a story about someting interesting in your life. Everyone has an untold story or two that the rest of the world might find interesting. Why not use the internet to get the word out?
